DISPATCHES

#71. 03-12-06 Austin TX: 2245 hrs. Today went alright. Ran into Lyle Lovett in the hallway. I met him before on Leno. Couldn’t meet a nicer guy. He’s in the room down from mine. I saw Sam Shepard in the lobby of the hotel and said, “I like your work!” he said thanks and kept moving. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before. I felt a little stupid but I think he’s very talented.
I did the q&a thing. People were very cool to me. I did some more press that went fine. I was done by early afternoon. I went to Waterloo Records and looked around and then walked back here. I got in a good workout at the hotel gym and then went walking around town a little. It’s loud here. A lot of bands are here and all the bars are open and the music is spilling onto the street. People call out my name and come up to talk to me. People are very friendly to me most of the time. It’s really cool but I don’t understand it.
We head out in the morning for Belgium and beyond. We have a layover at Dulles.  I am looking forward to that as it’s kinda close to DC. I just watched a screener of a film called Lonesome Jim. It stars Casey Affleck and Liv Tyler. I guess Casey is Ben Affleck’s brother. I think Casey is really great in the film. Liv Tyler is great as well. It’s a good film. It’s directed by Steve Buscemi, who I will be interviewing for the show when I get back. I’ve always been a fan of that guy. Lonesome Jim is a good film and I would recommend it. I should try and get some stuff done before I hit the rack. I want to go over that Doors thing again before I send it in to management.
