BROADCAST #01
AIR DATE: 01-03-09

Fanatics, Saturday night is radio time and there’s nowhere else you want to be than with me and Engineer X as we all gather to start another year of this thing we call the Sonic Jihad. I hope all of you had a good New Years and didn’t get into too much trouble and at least let someone else drive if you allowed the lines to get too blurry.

If all is going to plan, I am in Bamako, Mali waiting to get to Mopti to meet up with a group that will be heading out into the desert to Essakane via Timbuktu to check out three days of great music. You will notice that tonight, we are listening to a lot of music from this part of the world.

I wanted the first track that we started the year to have some meaning and after thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that there wasn’t anything else to play but this classic PE track. Some of you perhaps have not heard this one in awhile. That album is still working for me.
Heidi came up with an idea the other day. She decided that she will be picking out a song for each broadcast in 2009. There’s no saying no to her. Her pick tonight was the Dax Riggs track, nice one, you beast.

I am loving the new Marnie Stern album. I am still waiting for my LP version but it should show up before I get back. If you like what she does, the new album is a welcome addition. Dan Trice, our Fall scholar will definitely come out of his stupor when he hears our Fall track for tonight, that’s one of my favorite songs of the band’s entire catalog. Fall Fanatics take note that Beggars Banquet will be re-issuing their Fall albums remastered and hopefully with some extra tracks. It’s not exactly my favorite period of the band but those records are still really great and I look forward to finding out what BB will do with the catalog.
All in all, I think you have a good set of music to succumb to here and I do hope you enjoy it. Next week’s show is a great one, it’s already in the can. Please tune in if you can. Thanks for listening and let’s have another great year of music! STAY FANATIC!!! --Henry
